On 25 May 2018, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force. In this article, we will explain what changes are made to our services.
Automatic account deletion
The EU RGPD requires that we automatically and irreversibly delete inactive user accounts. If you have not logged in to our site within the last 18 (eighteen) months, we will be legally required to delete your account. We started this process on June 3, 2018. The deletion is automatic and IRREVERSIBLE. We are legally prohibited from restoring your user information.
If you want to prevent the deletion of your account, you simply need to login to our site. You have no purchase to make. All accounts that have been connected in the last 18 months OR have one or more active subscriptions are exempt from automatic account deletion. From there, just log in at least once every 18 months.
Unfortunately, we can not exempt you from the account deletion policy even if you ask us to do so. The law does not give us that option.
GDPR and your account on services-joomla
The RGPD is legislation designed to promote a priority privacy approach to manage your personal data with greater transparency and a means of reasonably exercising your rights to the data. Although it concerns only the citizens of one of the Member States of the European Union, we consider that it is better to offer the same level of treatment to all. Not only is it healthier for us (because we can not know what your nationality is to start with), but also because we place great importance on your privacy and your safety.
According to the RGPD, you must give your explicit consent to the processing of your personal information. This is an elegant way of saying that you allow us to give your billing information to the tax authorities and our accountants and auditors, and to let our staff (who are technically subcontractors) provide you with support. Since May 28, you must indicate your consent if you registered before May 24, 2018 or if you do not have an active subscription with us. You may withdraw your consent at any time, but we will not be able to provide you with our services until you consent again. The management of your consent (revocation of your consent) is possible after this choice. Read the "Exercising Your Data Rights" section below for more information.
The RGPD imposes the minimization of the data. It's a complicated way of saying that we have to delete your information when we have no legitimate business use. This means that we will delete your data profile 18 months after the expiration of your last subscription or have last logged into our site, whichever comes last. This is a legal requirement. We will send you an e-mail to the e-mail address we have in stock for you a month before we delete your user account free of charge and to avoid any problem. You do not have to buy a subscription or pay us otherwise to keep your data with us. You can simply login to your user account at least once every 18 months. Please note that emails will NOT be sent to the first group of users who have not logged in in the last 18 months.
If you do not want your user account deleted, just log in to our site. If your account is deleted, it is because we are legally bound to do so and no, we can not restore your account because we no longer have your data and the law does not allow us to do so.
If you have any questions about our treatment of your personal information, please read the privacy statement. All the information that the European Union asks us to put at your disposal is there.
Exercising your rights on the data
Since May 28, 2018, you can exercise your rights to the data by using our personal data options page. You can access this page freely as follows:
- Click on this link: Personal data options
- Click on the Personal Data Options link that you can find at the bottom of every page of our site after logging in.
- Sign in. Then click on the link My profile in the footer menu of this site. Click on the Edit Profile link at the top right of this page. Scroll down the edit page until you find the Personal Data Options heading. Click on the "Manage your personal data options" link next to it.
Please note that you must be logged in for the link to work. We do NOT keep personal information for individuals who do not have a user account on our site. Therefore, all your personal information is linked to your user account. For obvious security and privacy reasons, you must log in to our site to verify that you control the user account you are trying to manage. If you can not log in to your account, use the "Forgotten Password" and "Forgotten Password" links on our site.
The following data rights are available on this page:
- Revoke or restore your consent to the processing of personal information. We remind you that without your consent, we can not let you use our site, because we can not render any service without being able to collect your IP address in a newspaper for security purposes (download service) or use your personal information for respond to your requests (support, contact us, etc.). If you revoke your consent, you will not be able to use the disconnected (public) version of our site until you consent again.
- Export your profile (data portability right). The exported data is in XML format using the same database keys as the open source software we use on our site (Joomla and our extensions). Therefore, you can optionally use it to transfer your data to another site using the same software and / or transform it into another format tailored to your needs.
- Delete your profile (right to forget). IT IS IRREVERSIBLE. If you have a subscription, it is terminated without refund and you renounce all your rights against us. Use with EXTREME caution.
We do not allow users to delete their user profile within 180 days of purchasing their last subscription because:
it may not have been declared to the VAT tax / collector authorities (legal obligation) and
this is the maximum period after a purchase for a customer to file a payment dispute or chargeback request (which means that we must keep a record of the customer information to be used as proof of service in this case ).
The legal requirements outweigh the provisions of the GDPR in these cases. Of course, after 180 days from your last purchase, you can delete your user account without refund requests if you wish
.
